13 popular slang terms kids are using these days and what they mean
Has your kid ever come home from school and casually used a word in a sentence that made you do a double take? Well, you’re not alone.
As terms like “YOLO” and “cringe” fade from the vernacular, words like “skibidi” and “rizz” are becoming more popular. After some needed research, here’s a breakdown of some of the popular slang terms kids are using and what they mean.
Skibidi – Like some curse words, this can actually mean something is really good, or really bad. It started with a strange Youtube video of a head in a toilet.
Bussin – Something really good.
Rizz – This is essentially short for charisma, meaning charm or appeal, sometimes in a romantic way.
Drip – Something cool, fashionable. Often describing clothing or accessories.
Slay – Generally used to describe something good or something good that someone did.
Gigachad – an attractive, masculine and muscular man. It was also a popular image on social media.

Sigma – Similar to “chad,” and can be used in a variety of ways, but mostly means an independent, seemingly successful man.
Ohio – Something weird or strange. Apparently originated as a reference to strange things that happen in Ohio.
Gyat – Although this term has evolved, it now simply refers to buttocks and is pronounced “gat.” Actually heard this the other day as in “sticking out your Gyat for picture.”
Sus – This may be one we’ve heard, but for the uninitiated, it’s simply short for suspicious.
Bet – Basically short for ‘you bet,’ this is just a way of agreeing with something.
Delulu – Simply means delusional.
Beta – Unlike the Alpha who leads and takes charge, Beta refers to someone who is more passive.
During our research on these popular slang terms kids are using, it’s apparent they are frequently changing. For instance what something meant in 2023 my have changed by late 2024. So who knows what 2025 will bring.
