Texas community steps in after single dad with five kids loses everything in house fire

Just a week before Christmas, a dad in Texas is dealing with the aftermath of a fire that engulfed his home and destroyed his home and most of his family’s belongings. No one was injured in the fire, but two dogs did die from smoke inhalation.

However, Phillip Jackson, a single father of five children in McGregor is grateful for the community’s response. Several neighbors have stopped by and offered help and a GoFundMe that was set up raised $15,000 in just one day, according to KWTX. Local businesses are also helping raise money for the family.

Members of the community have also rented out a storage unit and have been gathering donations to help replace the Christmas gifts that were lost in the fire.

“It’s amazing. I really didn’t think at all that everybody would help that much. I told my kids we didn’t have anything to worry about and we’re going to get everything back and settled. I’m just so appreciative,” Jackson said according to KWTX.
